Alternatives

Datadog Cloud Cost Management alternatives.

Updated

CloudQuell is a Datadog Cloud Cost Management alternative priced as a flat monthly fee instead of a rate per dollar tracked: free under $10K/month of tracked spend, $99/month under $50K and $199/month for $50K–$200K, with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OpenAI, Anthropic and Snowflake on one ledger. Other alternatives: Vantage for a self-serve catalog of 40+ providers at published tiers, CloudZero for cost-per-customer unit economics, Finout for enterprise allocation at a flat quoted fee, and IBM Cloudability for a large-enterprise suite — the last three by quote.

Datadog CCM is strongest where Datadog already runs. Cost data picks up the tags your hosts, APM services and Kubernetes objects carry; Container Cost Allocation splits pod-level and idle cost; Cost Monitors cover anomalies, budgets and forecasts; and recommendations span AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OpenAI and Anthropic, with some able to open pull requests or run workflow automations. Viewing your Datadog bill itself is free. If your engineers already work in Datadog, CCM is the least-effort option on this page.

The usual reasons to compare alternatives are price and scope. Datadog publishes CCM at $5 (Pro) or $10 (Enterprise) per $1,000 of tracked cloud and SaaS spend per month on annual billing, so the fee rises with the bill: $1,000–$2,000/month at $200K of spend. Datadog also says container cost allocation and compute optimization recommendations require its Infrastructure and Container Monitoring. Each alternative below is described from its own public site as of the date at the foot of the page.

Datadog CCM and the main alternatives

Datadog Cloud Cost Management — the case for staying

Best for Teams already running the Datadog Agent and APM that want cloud, SaaS and AI cost on the same dashboards as service performance.

Strengths

  • Cost data picks up Datadog context: host tags from the Agent, service tags from the APM Service Catalog, and Kubernetes node, pod and volume tags, plus Tag Pipelines that add inferred tags and reprocess up to three months of history by default. Container Cost Allocation covers pod-level and idle cost across Kubernetes, Amazon ECS, Azure and Google Cloud.
  • Recommendations cover AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OpenAI and Anthropic, and some act: 1-click Workflow Automation for unused EBS volumes, Bits Code pull requests for some S3, DynamoDB and Kubernetes fixes. Cost Monitors handle anomalies, budgets and forecasts; SaaS cost integrations include Snowflake, Databricks, OpenAI, Anthropic and Cursor; and viewing your Datadog bill carries no additional charge.

Limitations

  • Priced per $1,000 of tracked cloud and SaaS spend — $5 Pro or $10 Enterprise on annual billing, $6 or $12 month-to-month, $7.20 or $15 on-demand — so the fee grows with the bill it watches.
  • Datadog says CCM works standalone but that container cost allocation and compute optimization recommendations require Infrastructure Monitoring and Container Monitoring.

Vantage

Best for Teams that want a standalone cost platform with the broadest self-serve catalog, Datadog’s own bill included, at a published price.

Strengths

  • Lists 40+ providers, including AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, Kubernetes, Snowflake, Databricks, Datadog, New Relic, OpenAI, Anthropic and Cursor; Cost Recommendations and Kubernetes cost reporting are on every plan.
  • Published flat tiers: free under $2,500/month of tracked spend, $30/month under $7,500, $200/month under $20,000. Autopilot for AWS Savings Plans is optional, at 5% of savings found.

Limitations

  • Above $20,000/month of tracked spend you move to Enterprise: a percentage of cloud spend metered monthly, or a fixed-rate quote with a 12-month minimum.
  • It is a cost platform, not an observability one: cost does not sit beside traces and service performance the way it does in Datadog.

CloudZero

Best for Teams moving off CCM because they need cost per customer, feature or product across cloud and AI spend, bought through sales.

Strengths

  • Positions itself as a "financial control plane for AI economics", with "every AI dollar tied to the outcome it produced."
  • One subscription with all capabilities included, optimization recommendations among them; AWS access is read-only and cross-account.

Limitations

  • Custom quote only: its pricing page shows no price, free tier or trial.

Finout

Best for Enterprises that want Datadog, Kubernetes, cloud and AI cost allocated in one place through virtual tags, at a flat fee.

Strengths

  • Connectors for AWS, GCP, Azure, Oracle, Alibaba, Kubernetes, Snowflake, Databricks, Datadog, OpenAI, Anthropic, Cursor and more, connected with "no code, no agents."
  • A flat fee for the contract term set by committed-spend tier, not per seat and not a percentage; CostGuard gathers native AWS, Azure and Google Cloud recommendations into one ranked queue.

Limitations

  • Quote only, with a free trial and no free tier.

IBM Cloudability

Best for Large enterprises that want a multi-cloud suite with rightsizing, commitment tracking and Kubernetes allocation.

Strengths

  • Rightsizing recommendations with utilization and safe scale-up or scale-down options, commitment utilization and risk tracking, container cost allocation, and AI usage by model, token type and direction.

Limitations

  • No published price (Essentials, Standard and Premium packages by quote), and a free trial rather than a free tier.

Native cloud tools (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)

Best for Single-cloud teams whose CCM use is mostly reading the bill.

Strengths

  • Azure Cost Management covers Azure spend at no additional cost; AWS Cost Explorer’s API is $0.01 per request; Google’s detailed billing export to BigQuery carries service, SKU, project, label and resource-level cost, with only BigQuery storage and query charges.

Limitations

  • Each is built around its own cloud’s bill, with no link to service telemetry.

Where CloudQuell fits as a Datadog CCM alternative

CloudQuell is a flat-priced, standalone option with published tiers up to $200K/month of tracked spend. It puts AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OpenAI, Anthropic and Snowflake on one ledger with cost centers and allocation, budgets, anomaly alerts on Slack, Microsoft Teams and email, and ranked AWS savings recommendations, for $99/month under $50K of tracked spend and $199/month to $200K: about a fifth to a tenth of Datadog’s published annual rate at $200K. It needs no agent: AWS connects through a read-only IAM role and CUR 2.0, with up to 12 months backfilled from Cost Explorer (Datadog ingests up to 15 months of CUR history already in S3). The gaps against Datadog CCM are real: no Kubernetes or container cost, no ingestion of your Datadog bill yet, savings recommendations for AWS only, daily billing data with no link to traces, and a younger product.

A good fit when

  • You want the FinOps bill to stay flat as cloud spend grows, rather than scale per $1,000 tracked.
  • You are not standardized on Datadog, or finance owns cost and does not need traces beside it.
  • Your stack is AWS-first plus OpenAI, Anthropic or Snowflake, and you want it on one ledger, self-serve.

Not the right tool when

  • You already run the Datadog Agent and APM and want cost on the same dashboards — CCM is the least-effort option.
  • You need Kubernetes or container cost allocation — Datadog, Vantage, Finout or a Kubernetes tool covers it.
  • You want your Datadog invoice tracked as a cost source — CloudQuell does not ingest it yet; Datadog Cost Visibility (free) and Vantage do.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best Datadog Cloud Cost Management alternatives?
CloudQuell for a flat, self-serve price (free under $10K/month of tracked spend, $99/month under $50K, $199/month for $50K–$200K); Vantage for the broadest self-serve catalog, Datadog’s own bill included; CloudZero for cost-per-customer unit economics; Finout for enterprise allocation at a flat quoted fee; and IBM Cloudability for a large-enterprise suite. For a single cloud, the native AWS, Azure and Google Cloud tools carry no platform fee.
How much does Datadog Cloud Cost Management cost?
Datadog publishes Cloud Cost Management Pro at $5 and Enterprise at $10 per $1,000 of tracked cloud and SaaS spend per month on annual billing, $6 and $12 month-to-month, and $7.20 and $15 on-demand (verified November 2, 2026). At $200K/month of tracked spend that is $1,000–$2,000/month on annual terms. Viewing only your Datadog costs is free under Datadog Cost Visibility.
Datadog CCM vs Vantage: which should I choose?
Choose Datadog CCM if your engineers already work in Datadog: cost inherits host, APM service and Kubernetes tags and sits beside performance data. Choose Vantage for a standalone cost platform at a published price: free under $2,500/month of tracked spend, $30/month to $7,500 and $200/month to $20,000, with 40+ providers including Datadog itself. Above $20K Vantage moves to Enterprise, which its pricing FAQ says can be a percentage of cloud spend metered monthly or a fixed-rate quote on a 12-month minimum; Datadog’s rate stays $5–$10 per $1,000 of spend.
Is Datadog Cloud Cost Management worth it if we already use Datadog?
Often, yes. With the Datadog AWS integration in place, setup is a Cost and Usage Report delivered to S3 plus a few read permissions on the Datadog integration role; cost is then enriched with the tags your services carry, and some recommendations can open pull requests or run workflow automations. The trade-offs are a fee that is a rate on the spend it tracks, and that container cost allocation and compute recommendations require Infrastructure and Container Monitoring.
Does CloudQuell track Datadog costs?
Not yet. Datadog billing ingestion is on CloudQuell’s roadmap by request, not in active development. CloudQuell tracks AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OpenAI, Anthropic and Snowflake today; if your Datadog invoice is a large line, Datadog Cost Visibility shows it free, and Vantage and Finout ingest it.
Is there a Datadog CCM alternative that isn’t priced per dollar of spend?
Yes. CloudQuell publishes flat tiers up to $200K/month of tracked spend ($99 and $199/month, free under $10K), Vantage’s published tiers are flat up to $20K, and Finout states a flat fee for the contract term by committed-spend tier. CloudZero and IBM Cloudability do not publish their pricing.
